I have nearly 20,000 photographs stored in iCloud. I want to archive most of them to external data discs (Blu-ray) so I can delete them from the cloud. I can find no way to do this. Can anybody suggest a solution?

That solution works fine for photographs stored on my iMac, but what I need is to archive the photo library that's stored on iCloud, which incorporates all photos sourced from every device. So far I can't find any way to do that.
Couldn't you export the photos from iCloud to the iMac then proceed with the option above?
How do I export the photos from iCloud to the iMac? I've selected several thousand but cannot then find an option that allows me to export them. I'm probably being dense here and would love somebody to tell me how it's done.
If this is an iCloud Photo Library and you have a Mac with enough space, you can go to Photos > Preferences > iCloud and choose download originals. iCloud will put them all into your system library.
At iCloud.com, hold down the option/alt key while selecting the photos.When you get them all selected, you should see a download option.
