Hi chahbrah,

If you are trying to unlink a telephone number used for iMessage and Facetime, follow the steps outlined below:

Link your iPhone number and Apple ID to use iMessage and FaceTime

Unlink your phone number associated with your Apple ID

When you sign in to iMessage or FaceTime with your Apple ID on your iPhone, your phone number will link with your Apple ID. This lets you use your phone number with iMessage and FaceTime on your other iOS devices and Mac.

To unlink your phone number, remove your Apple ID from iMessage and FaceTime on your iPhone. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
  2. Go to Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.

This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with iMessage and FaceTime. If the phone number is still available on your other devices after you sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on your iPhone, you might need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all of your devices.

If you don’t have the iPhone with the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.

Manage your Apple ID account information

Your Apple ID is the account you use to access all Apple services including the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and more. You can keep all your Apple ID account information up to date from the Apple ID account page, such as your user name, security information, name, birthday, devices, and more.

I tried everything listed in the responses above and none seemed to worked. I changed my number but not my phone and the old number just couldn't be deleted.

I reset all settings on my phone. Go to Settings. General. Reset. Reset all settings.

This will reset all your settings and remove the old number associated with your Apple ID and or iMessage and FaceTime. Hope this helps.

Hello,

Not sure if this is still useful to answer but I was struggling with this too, but I actually found out how to do it.

I am using a Macbook Air so the steps might be slightly different on a PC but this is what I did:

Go to System Preferences -> iCloud -> Account Details.

This should get you to the menu where you can change all the phone numbers. If you used your old phone number for verifications and such, it should be listed under security and you can modify everything there.

On a PC I would recommend opening the iCloud application or settings page and hopefully it should make sense from there.
