Update failed because of refund or buyer problem?

I am trying to update, something I have put off for a few weeks, and I am prompted that I cannot update using my ID. The only thing I can think of is that the macbook I am using was purchased refurbished, other than that I haven't bought or purchased anything. What's this about and how to I fix it? The only updates still queued are for iPhoto and El Capitan. Thanks!

Hey mnhpdx,
I understand that you are trying to update your apps on your Mac but getting the above message about being purchased under a different user. Let's see if we can figure out what is going.
The first thing I would check is to see what specific app is causing that error to pop up. Open the Mac App Store and navigate to the Purchased tab to see what app did not update. More details about updating your apps through the Mac App Store.

If you don't remember purchasing it and was purchased from a previous owner, then you will their Apple ID to update it. If you don't have access to it, then you will need to delete the app and download the app with your Apple ID. Take a look at the article below for the steps on deleting and downloading apps from the Mac App Store.
