If you can't remember your id have you tried : If you forgot your Apple ID - Apple Support ?

Or, and as you say that you were the original purchaser of the iPad (i.e. it wasn’t bought used), you could try going to an Apple Store (make a Genius Bar appointment if you do) or try contacting iTunes Support online (https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html) and see if they can remove the iPad from the account - they are likely to want to see proof of ownership before they might help e.g. original receipt with the serial number on it

I feel your pain. I too have a apple ipad 2 my wife and daughter bought me for fathers day in 2011. I have not used it in some time and now I can not remember the pas-code to allow me to activate it. I've been told by apple support (Thieves) that for $99.00 they can assist me in recovering the ipad 2.

To lock out a device someone has purchased and made it a brick in efforts to secure it in the event of it being lost or stolen is a joke. If it becomes lost an the individual can not open it they will just throw it away. It should be set up to allow for wiping it clean by the owner. I'm so ****** off by this BS I will never purchase an apple product again ever!

Apple is a group of thieves and scammers!

Whoever you talked to was in fact a scammer. However, it wasn't Apple.

Only the person who initiated the Activation Lock can

remove it. There is no workaround for the security

features of Activation Lock.

Have your cousin turn the iPhone in to the local authorities

or recycle it responsibly. That iPhone is and will remain useless.

If it is indeed stolen, your cousin - in many jurisdictions - is

committing a crime by being in possession of stolen goods.
