I get alerts for birthdays in my calendar and I uncheck it, but still get them. It won't let me delete or edit it. Every time I delete the event, or turn the notification off, it creates a second event. I can't even edit it in the calendar settings! Help!

The Birthdays calendar fetches birthdays from the Contacts app. You can not remove the whole calendar, however, you can 'hide' the Birthdays calendar. Go to Calendar > Tap 'Calendars' on the bottom of your screen > Uncheck 'Birthdays' by tapping on it.
I found that I had to go to the actual source to delete the event. So for example, if the birthdays were listed under Outlook, I signed into my Outlook account online and removed the birthdays manually there. Also un-tick the calendar attached to your account whether it be Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo etc.
Remove the birthday information from the Birthday field in your contact entries. Put it in notes if you want to keep a record of it but not have it show in a calendar.
