How do you redeem a US giftcard in Canada?

I tried to redeem my giftcard on my iPhone and Mac using the instructions that were given to me but it said "This code must be redeemed in the US storefront." I tried it on both devices but it said the same thing on both of them. So I was wondering how I could redeem that giftcard in Canada.
