My Apple Magic Mouse 2 is acting erratic, its moving very slowly or not at all.

My Magic Mouse 2 is acting erratic, it doesnt move sometimes or moves very slowly. I have tried to log on to Apple Support to no avail as accessories don't seem to be supported. Does anyone have a suggestion? I have changed the tracking speed, have reloaded the mouse via bluetooth, have recharged it, all not working. Scrolling works fine, but when I move the mouse it doesn't move or moves slowly. I am using a track pad, just to make sure its not a surface issue.

I'm curious if your problem persists off the mouse pad? I also use a mouse pad. Mine is a all black steelseries pad. I bought it when I bought my MM2 almost two months. Before this week I have had times the mouse pointer either froze on the screen or moved very sluggishly for a period of time. The issue always resolved itself after a brief time. Starting this week I have two times where the pointer is locked horizontally. It will move side to side but not vertically. I moved it off the mouse pad and it worked flawlessly. Back on the pad it's still stuck horizontally. Turning the MM2 off/on had no effect. I restarted and everything worked again. A day or two go by and it does it again. I wasn't in a place to do a restart and kept working off the mouse pad. After a few moments I'm back on the mouse pad and it's working again. It's been working fine since then. I have examined the MM2 lens but it looks normal. It had been recently charged so power should not have been an issue. Except for these annoyances it works much better that my original MM. For the record I am running a Mac mini (Late 2012) OS X 10.11.2 with any updates that have been offered. I did a general search for this issue and your description seemed the closest I could find so far to mms issue.

Well, since I posted this message earlier this week, I have tried the following:

-Completely recharged the mouse--no effect on the issue.

-Took the mouse off of the mouse pad, I had some limited success here but was still a bit erratic, which is why I bought the mouse pad in the first place.

-Cleaned the mouse pad--Success! The pad didnt appear dirty but in fact was. Once I cleaned it and let it dry over night the mouse has responded correctly since then. Not sure if this is related or not as another day went by, but it now works fine.

Hope this helps!

It's worth a try although it seems like there should have been someplace on the pad that would have been clean enough in my case for the MM2 to work. It would move "perfectly" side to side just not up and down. It appears to be happening randomly for me and has been working on the pad for the last two days without incident. Did you use dish soap and water to clean it?

Personally I think there is more than just a dirty mouse pad. It happened again this week late one evening. This time restarting my Mac mini did not fix the mouse. Neither did changing mouse settings. The mouse continued working off the pad (on a simulated wood grain surface) performing all the functions it is supposed to do. On the pad ( a textured black material with rubbery back) it is barely functioning. No left/right clicks, no scrolling and no changing direction of movement beside in a straight line. Since I can't get the mouse to fail on command it makes diagnosing a challenge. I turned off the mouse and computer and in the morning it was functioning again. It has continued working just fine since then.

"The Apple Magic Mouse is quite frankly the most expensive, heaviest, uncomfortable and unpredictable mouse I have used in my life!

I would rather use an old ball mouse than the magic mouse. Now what do I do with the most expensive mouse ive bought?"

I wish there was a wired/usb option for the mouse. On my Windows 7 computer I no longer use any wireless devices and consequently I have had no connection issues since last summer. I use a full wired Apple keyboard for my Mac mini and my internet connection is wired, no Airport allowed. I hated the tiny trackball Apple mouse and tossed it to get the first Magic Mouse. The lower profile, shape and features did not bother my arthritic hands as much. My only issues with it were loosing battery contact when setting it on the desk harder than a feather drop. When the MM2 came out I was not an early adopter but waited for a while. Supposedly it is lighter and has a built in rechargeable battery which does last a long while between charges. Still I have had problems with it too. Also it's not inexpensive but I have spent more on many other mice. Considering the issue at hand; would I buy it again? I don't know but right now I wish I had spent the same dollars on another wired Razer Mambo mouse which I use for my W7 computer with no problems ever.

I had a very similar problem, and also a disappointing/insane experience with a bluetooth keyboard, and this is what I did to fix my bad peripherals:

Hold down the option key while clicking the bluetooth icon in the upper right, and you'll get a contextual menu. Scroll down to your MM2 and click REMOVE, not disconnect.

You'll need a backup mouse to take over temporarily, so hopefully you have an old one around. But once the MM2 is gone, use the old mouse to open the bluetooth prefs to rediscover/re-pair the MM2. Once you do that, hopefully your mouse gets its act together!

Good luck!

It's now almost the middle of April and I have not had another incident... yet. During this time I've also started turning the MM2 off when it's not being used. Unlike my wife I always turn my computer off when I leave. I used to leave the mouse on so it was ready the next time I turned the computer on. I would occasionally forget to turn it on and be reminded at startup I had no mouse. I still do but it doesn't seem to bother me any more. I've applied any and all the OS updates so maybe there was an issue, who knows. Time will tell if it's really an issue that's no longer happening.
