phone contacts not showing up in Carplay

I just recently installed a Kenwood DDX9902S. Everything works great except when I hit the phone app in carplay..... when I hit the phone app, Siri asks me to name the person I want to call.....If I need to make a call from a number that is in my contact list.... it's all good.... but if the number is not in my contact list.... I can't make a call, because when I hit "show contacts"...... instead of bringing up my contacts, and the keypad so I can dial a number.... the screen just resets back to the home menu showing the apps....

I don't understand why I can't dial a number through carplay using the touch screen.

any suggestions or am I doing something wrong?

Yes, I have been having the same problem with my Pioneer 8100 NEX. I called Pioneer and explained that my phone contacts would not show up when I hit the show contacts and they informed me that it was an Apple problem because the deck that performs the Apple Carplay just mirrors the phone and has nothing to do with the Deck. I went to the Apple Store and they were not able to give me an answer as well.
