Why won't my iPad use my phone number on iMessage

i keep trying to put my text on my iPad, but it will only let me use an email. I don't want to use my email I want my phone number help!!!

An iPad will not support SMS/MMS texting through a carrier. It's not a phone.

iMessage uses Apple ID's for messaging.

You may use your iPhone's telephone number in iMessage. Is that what you're trying to do? Here are instructions:
