How to upload in the Photos iCloud only certain photo folders from Mac or iPad not all?

I don't want to upload all pictures because some are not worth it but I still want to keep them on my iPad . Also, since I can't mark the photos that should be visible on the apple tv screensaver, I have to filter out all "bad" pictures for a (public) screensaver.

How can I selectively upload pictures in the Photos iCloud?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS X (10.7.5), iPad, etc.

I'm not sure I understand the benefit of creating two folders. "All" photos will still upload to iCloud, from your device, but they'll just be in a different folder.

I meant separate Photos Libraries, not folders.

Only one Photos Library can upload to iCloud Photo Library. Keep the 100 photos or so you want in iCloud in one library and all others in a second Photos Library. You can have many different Photos Libraries, and the oe Photos Library you enable as your System Photo Library can upload to iCloud, if you enable it as your iCloud Photo Library.

the problem was here more related to apple tv's screensaver. I found out how to do it eventually. You must create a shared iCloud picture folder (directly in the Photos application) and you have an option on apple tv to just use as screensaver the pictures in a shared picture folder. so that solves the problem - then you just have to make sure you copy the pictures you want in the screensaver to that shared picture folder.

I wouldn't mind uploading all of my photos to iCloud, but when I had it, it routinely failed to operate properly. Besides on my iMac, In I have literally have tens of thousands of photos, and buying more iCloud space isn't an option for me.

If you want to have only selected photos in your iCloud Photo Library you have to keep separate Photos Libraries for the photos you want in iCloud and the photos you don't want to upload. See this Help Page: Use multiple libraries

With iCloud Photos Library it is all or nothing - either all photos in system Photo Library will upload or none. By splitting the libraries, you can be more selective.
