Problems with disappearing emails.

Sometimes but not always my emails disappear from my Ipad Air 2.

I open my emails and a summary of those received appear on the left hand side of the screen. I swipe to the left to decide what to do with the, normally I delete them but sometimes when i touch them they disappear to the top of the screen not to be found, either in the deleted box or anywhere else.

Can anyone help please?
