Converting video for iPod

OK, I just got my new video iPod today yay!

But I have followed the directions for converting video (right click and go to "convert for ipod" and it converted, but there is no sound, the sound does not work on the file on the computer or the iPod, but there is sound on the original file...

Sorry if this doesn't make any sense, but I hope someone can help me...
Thank you in advance

iTunes uses quicktime services to do conversion.
Quicktime does not like muxed files(audio/video are one track), so you get only video.

You must get a seperate transcoder.
I recommend mpeg streamclip: http://www.squared5.com/

For commercial dvd conversion use the free program Instant handbrake : http://handbrake.m0k.org/

On a Mac-no need to pay for a great program that just works.

Hi i want to share my experience with you, you need to convert your dvd or video to the correct format first, ipod only support h264 and mpeg4 encoded format, i am using cucucsoft ipod suite, it works good for me, it can not only directly convert dvds to mp4, but also can convert avi, wmv, asf, xvid, rm, rmvb etc to mp4, it's easy and fast to use, highly recommended if you are looking for such a converter, i get it from http://www.ipodtechies.com/viewtopic.php?p=49#49

I realized I had the app, MPEGStreamclip. But still got nowhere. The clips I have are .mov or mpg files. Both open and play just fine in QuickTime. But converting them to other formats in QuickTime accomplished nothing. So then I used MPEG Streamclip to convert them to mpeg format. That got them into my iTunes library playing fine, both video and audio. But iPod wouldn't accept them via manual transfer, so I used "convert to iPod." That stripped all the audio from them. In other words, I could get iPod to accept an mpeg video clip only after "converting," which got the video onto the iPod but no audio. So I'm stumped.
