Cannot use Apple Pencil while charging

Is it just me or can you not use the Apple Pencil on the iPad Pro while its being charged? I use a regular official iPhone charger to charge it.

iPad Pro Wi-Fi, iOS 9.2, With Apple Pencil

Charging the penicil with the iPad is a diaster waiting to happen.

No, we disable the drawing functionality while it is charging (performance reasons). Although you can charge with a Lightning cable, it will charge much faster when connected directly to the iPad Pro.
