Q: Unable to add card to Apple Pay on Apple Watch

I am an Englishman living in central Italy. I still have an English bank account in addition to my Italian accounts, and the debit card associated with the former is registered to Apple Pay for use when I visit the UK. I have recently purchased an Apple Watch but am unable to add my English card to the watch. The Apple Watch User Guide says, "Open the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap My Watch, then tap Wallet & Apple Pay.” However, unlike its appearance in Settings, Wallet in the Apple Watch app is labelled 'Wallet' rather than 'Wallet and Apple Pay' and simply presents me with a choice of mirroring the phone or enabling custom. The latter offers no choices; enabling the former brings up my boarding passes and loyalty cards but no debit card.

  Obviously this isn't a major problem as I can still use my phone for Apple Pay but I'd be grateful for advice on how to solve the issue.

    Hi James

     

    Apple Pay is presently available within Australia, Canada, the UK and the US. Unless your device is set to one of those regions, you will not see the option to add cards.

     

    You can also only add supported cards from participating banks or stores within those countries:

    If you are in one of those countries, but don't see the option to add cards to Apple Pay, check the region settings on your devices:

     

    To change the region on your iPhone, go to:

    Settings > General > Language & Region > Region

     

    For the watch, on your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to:

    My Watch > General > Language & Region > Region Format

     

    Card issuers may also use information about your present location when considering whether to approve adding cards to Apple Pay.

    Thanks Jonathan. I was aware that Apple Pay is not available in Italy but, as I said in my post, I use it when I'm in the UK. My phone, which does have Apple Pay enabled is set to Italy as its region. However, it's possible I may have temporarily set it to the UK when I added my English debit card. I'll try doing the same on the watch and see if, as you suggest, it does the trick. Once again, thanks for your speedy response. Having followed the forum for some weeks prior to buying the watch in order to see what sort of problems people were experiencing I appreciate the invaluable advice you have given to so many posters.
