How do I turn off airplay?

Every time I have tried to play music, it airplays on my TV or speakers throughout my house. I tried to turn it off on the sound output settings, but the only option is the TV/speaker system and no option to change it back.

This problem has also made my macbook air significantly slower and fanning for about two days now.

If this helps, the sound problems occurred on Netflix and Spotify. I've tried using headphones and it still doesn't work.
