Jan 6, 2016 2:25 AM in response to Dustysangel16by K Shaffer,The former owner may not have correctly prepared the unit for sale or re-use by another owner.
So you may have to contact that person & have them physically go through the motion to do this.
If not, it's a costly paperweight, see:
• What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Also, because these devices employ security measures, there are other details you should be
aware of that will affect your use (as you've found one so far) such as these other details:
• If you can't activate your iPhone - Apple Support
• Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support
• Turn off Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support
{another one to check, that I don't have support link for, is what to do if your iDevice is stolen;
and even if yours wasn't listed as such, some of the protections need to be re-set or disabled
for a new user to set it up correctly}
Hopefully you can resolve the issues and be able to use the phone.
Good luck in this matter!
