Workout app won't quit

I used the Workout app for the first time and can't quit it. It is trying to read vitals (light is on constantly on back of watch). I've tried quitting the app by opening the app, pressing and holding the button until I get to the shut-down screen, then pressing and holding again. It doesn't quit the app; I can still see the icon on the watch face in time mode. I've restarted and updated to v2. The battery drains completely in 8 hours. Anyone know how to fix this? Thank you.

I had this problem too. All the literature said press firmly on the screen and tap End, but pressing firmly on the screen did nothing.

So, from within the workout app, swipe all the way to the left, then I found the End button and tapped it.

Hi

Try these (speculative) steps:

- Use the Heartbeat glance to check your heart rate: when viewing the time on your watch face, swipe up on the screen, then swipe left / right until you find the Heartbeat Glance. This will trigger a manual check of your heart rate using the same sensors. Swipe down on the screen to exit.

- Tell Siri to check your heart rate: ("hey Siri, check my heart rate"). This will also trigger a manual check of your heart rate. Press the Digital Crown once to exit.

- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Workout - turn on Power Saving Mode.

- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > disable Heart Rate and also (at least initially) Fitness Tracking.

After trying these steps, also restart both devices again (both off together, restart iPhone first).

This has also happened to me on at least 10 occasions - restarting stops the watch from constantly reading heart rate and the green man disappears. On an almost daily basis he reappears though! I don't use the workout app so it's nothing to do with me not properly finishing workouts. Getting pretty annoying tbh.

On an aside, I dont get why the hr monitor destroys battery so much? The fitness surge monitors hr constantly using the same green lights and that has a 4 day battery life...

Any thoughts welcome.

Try the same steps as suggested above.

If they do not help, try also unpairing and re-pairing your watch:

- Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support

- Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Check also that both your iPhone and Apple Watch are updated to the latest software:

- Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

- Update the software on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If the issue persists, contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch checked under warranty:
