Q: why is the command/tab not working in new keynote during a presentation

Why does the command/tab not work with Keynote 6.6.1 during a presentation.  I can't exit (smoothly and professionally) the presentation to get to applications running in the background, and then back smoothly.  Slows my presentation down, looks unprofessional.  This key combo worked great before I used the new version of Keynote.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), Keynote version 6.6.1

We have no issues with application switcher using Yosemite and Keynote 6.6.1 on any of our or clients systems, there is no record of anyone having this issue on the discussions.

    This sounds like a systems issue;

    • what amount of RAM is installed
    • what is the amount of free space on the start up volume
    • do you have antivirus, security or cleaning applications installed
    • is the trash emptied
    • is the desktop clear of files and folders

Sorry, but this answer did not help.  None of this is affecting the issue otherwise it would (I assume) be problematic with the older version of Keynote, which allows the command /tab to function just fine to applications in background.

I figured out that I needed to do the following: Keynote/preferences/slideshow/allow Mission Control.  This enables the command to function.

I have the same issue.  When I go to Preferences and enable Mission Control,  Cmd-Tab brings up the app switcher but when an app is selected,  the projector screen changes from Keynote to the app.  This didn't happen before. I used to switch apps within Keynote and the projector screen did not change.

    I have the same issue.

the projector screen changes from Keynote to the app.

No you don't have the same issue, the original question asked:

"I can't exit (smoothly and professionally) the presentation to get to applications running in the background"

When I go to Preferences and enable Mission Control,  Cmd-Tab brings up the app switcher but when an app is selected,  the projector screen changes from Keynote to the app

That is the correct behaviour for Keynote when the option is selected for:     Allow Mission Control

I used to switch apps within Keynote and the projector screen did not change.

Then you had previously option set to:  Allow Mission Control to use the screen

Therefore deselect the option if you do not want Keynote to with when using Application Switcher
