Close the lid while shutting down

Just a dump question. Why is this important ? OS X Yosemite: Log out, sleep, restart, and shut down

Important: If you have a portable Mac, wait for it to shut down completely before closing the display. If you close the display while the Mac is shutting down, it may not shut down properly and may start up more slowly the next time you turn it on.

Is it:

  • too difficult to change (disable sleep_event while shutting down)?
  • needed to monitor the whole shutting down process (with nothing on the screen except the running circle)?

I shut down my laptop in the morning and rushed myself to school. After two classes, I turned it on. After logged in, it continued its shutting down process. Wait for a while, I turn it on again and bammmm half of my battery had gone. This has happened for several times.

If I have an old system, it might take a few minutes to shut down ( ten seconds in a hurry feel like ten minutes). I find no reason to keep an eye on the screen when the computer is shutting down (after the warning message saying that some apps still running).

The reason is "system may not be completely shutdown and the system can overheat in the bag and/or lose battery". My system shuts down in less than 20 seconds usually, which is not too long.

😁 So Apple just hands over the responsibility to the users incase of something happened, such as, fire or property damaged. I see a lot of people who never wait until the system completely shut down. So, shut down the laptop, close the lid and put it in backpack or just close the lid and put it in the backpack, which way is better?

The system should be powered-down/off when in a backpack ... you need air-exchange to cool the system when "sleeping", such as sitting on a hard-flat surface.

Macs are durable and last longer than plasticy HPs and Dells, but there are rules to use them properly. Forcing "crisis mode" such as shutdown due to overheat from "sleeping in a backpack" will eventually injure the computer.
