Quiktime error 2048 - "it is not a file that Quiktime understands"

Hi

I've got a windows 8.1 laptop that won't play any .mov files even once QuickTime is installed. I need the videos to play so they can be used in powerpoint.

We have another 5 of the exact same laptops and they all work without a problem so it is with the laptop and not the files.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled QuikTime without success.

Any one able to help with this? Could it potentially be a codec issue?
