Q: iMac 27" 2010 mid motherboard fail?!

Dear Support,

I have iMac 27" 2010 mid 3,2 GHz Intel Core i3 2+2 GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB.

The computer is working but it slows down and freezes all the time and I recognize graphic failures.

I run the official Apple boot hardwer test and that find the next failure:

2.jpg

What do you think, is it fixable? Or should I broke it in half and throw it outside the window?

Best,

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

The error codes appears to be a hard drive failure. I strongly recommend taking the machine to an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have it professionally diagnosed. If it's just the HD then have it replaced with either an SSD or another HD. If you don't know of any AASPs in your area please click https://locate.apple.com/country to begin finding one.

    Can I test this?

How could I find out what is the problem?

    kisPonyi,

I have indicated what you should do already, take the machine in for service. You do not have the correct diagnostic tools available to you, only an AASP has these. Once you have determined what is wrong, then you can decide what you want to do with the machine.

Okay, thank you I have already found AASP. I contact them.

When I have the failure I write here too to help others.

    Thank you.

The error code is actually a failed cooling fan motor, the one the cooled the original hard drive. A drive failure code would start with "4HDD." If the SSD does not require a cooling fan and has no sensor connections to activate such a fan, the error has probably been there since you upgraded to the SSD.

The test does not indicate a hardware issue, however Alan is likely correct about the fan sensor.

However I do see two alarming items. Using a torrent to download anything is EXTREMELY dangerous as you can easily download malware. If you use the torrent to download applications, movies, or content that does not belong to you then I recommend ceasing this.

I also see you have downloaded adware. You should like into getting rid of this, I'd recommend using Malwarebytes, you can find it by Googling it.

download and run > Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware Detection & Removal Software for Apple Macintosh Computers - written by a fellow ASC member - to remove the adware

    test afterwards

if you still are slow, you could consider adding RAM (4 GB is considered 'minimum' for Yosemite and beyond)

Today morning I reinstall Yosemite. The OSX was original and the failure was still there when I had not used torrents yet.

    Hi all,

I took my iMAC to an Apple Service Point and I got an offer.

Unfortunately I don't want to spend this much money on it so I decided to repair it myself.

What do you think how should I start?

SSD change to HDD or RAM change to new?

I'm looking forward to your answers.

    Thanks
