Q: How do I transfer photos from iMac to iPhone?

I want to transfer some photos back to my iPhone from my iMac, due to storage issues in the past I try to avoid iCloud, Photo Stream sharing etc; I find it all quite convoluted and confusing.

Can't I just click on the photos in Photos and drag and drop them to my iPhone when it is connected to my iMac via USB?

I've tried a few suggestions in forums but I'm having trouble, can anyone assist me with this?

Thanks in advance.

Create an album in Photos with the photos you want on the iPhone, then connect it to USB, launch iTunes, and sync the album to your iPhone.

When I click on Photos in iTunes it says iCloud Photos is On, but clicking on the link you sent doesn't really help me from there, I feel it assumes I should know what to do.

How do I deactivate iCloud Photos? because the option to sync the folder looks a lot easier. But it's not giving me that option.

    Thanks

When I click on Photos in iTunes it says iCloud Photos is On,

Then you have iCloud Photo Library enabled on your iPhone. with iCloud Photo Library enabled on the iPhone, you can only transfer the photos using iTunes and not sync with iTunes.

Is it intentional, that you have iCloud Photo Lbrary enabled on the phone?  I thought you did not want that because you wrote "due to storage issues in the past I try to avoid iCloud, Photo Stream sharing etc; I find it all quite convoluted and confusing."

If you want to sync the folder with iTunes go to the settings on the iPhone, "Settings > iCloud > Photos, then turn off iCloud Photo Library.

Then connect the iPhone again to USB and try again to sync with iTunes.
