Installed a new home screen button, should I not Update software?

Hello,

My homescreen button and screen had cracked and I just got it repaired. I was told by the iphone repair specialist not to update my phone anymore because the phone might brick because of the new home screen button that got installed.

My finger print sensor does now work anymore for the phone on this new button.

With an update, will an software update brick my phone? I am on version 9.2.
