HT204447: If you can’t change your iTunes Store country or region

Q: I can't download an App update, I get the following message "Account not in this store message. Your account is not valid in the Irish Store. You must switch to the UK store before purchasing".

I was given an iTunes voucher brought in the Republic of Ireland (euros) so to redeem it I had to change my iTunes region/country to Ireland. I spent all the credit so there is no credit remaining in the Irish App Store. I have since switched the region/country back to the UK, however I have the following problem when trying to update an App I get the following message,"Your account is not valid for use in the Irish store. You must switch to the UK store before purchasing".

I have done the following,

1) Checked the region, and App and iTunes, both set as UK

2) Reset region/country to the UK, this makes no difference still get the same message.

3) Reset region/country to Ireland then reset to the UK this made no difference what so ever.

Why should we in this electronic age have to change the region/country to redeem a different currency voucher, its archaic.

Jon.

I find the path this conversation has taken very bizarre, for I am genially trying to fix a problem I have with my iPhone. I have so far received no assistance, I do however notice you have chosen edit my posts. I don't think telling me I don't understand and wishing me a nice day is going to solve my problem. I genially asked if you had any further suggestions and having received your last reply only adds to my frustration. If you unable to help me, could you please pass me on to someone who can. Thank you.

    Regards Jon

I have been told a complete reinstall may solve this problem, however I was hoping to avoid this.

I have just tried the following. I exited iTunes, rebooted my iPhone and logged back into my iTunes account, it then states that I’m in the wrong country store and offers to change settings to the UK, I thought I’d solved the problem however I went to update an App and got the same message as previously discussed.  Any suggestions please. Kindly not I have not been rude to you at all, however I’m fed up with my iPhone today as I’ve been trying to fix this problem for 2 days and wonder whether I should drop it in a bucket of water to protect my sanity, but then the problem is with the App store and not my phone. I have in the past had no problems with the help I’ve received from Apple Support, however tonight is very strange. Are you refusing to hand me over to somebody else?

    Regards Jon.

The forums are "staffed" by users volunteering their time.

This isn't Apple's official technical support.

I'm thinking your thread may have been edited so I'm missing things, but here's what I'm thinking is causing the issue:

-The app you're trying to update is one you purchased from the Ireland store. In order to update that app, you may have to be in that same store (I am NOT sure on this, it's entirely a guess). Similar to how apps are tied permanently to an Apple ID, perhaps they are also tied to a particular store?

Can you try downloading a free app? Does that work as expected?

Thank you Lyssa,  I have just tried your suggestion and everything has behaved as it should do. It's very odd what is happening with my iPhone/App the App it is trying to update has a blue dot by it to imply it has been updated, however in the App store app the same app is shown waiting to be updated, and when I click update I get the previously mentioned message. Sorry if this reads a bit jumbled.

    Many Thanks

    Jon

Be you have and email address for technical support at Apple if I have manage to rectify its problem.

Hello again. I have deleted the app that App store is trying to update, this app has disappeared  from the update tab in the App store leaving it empty, however the App store icon is now showing an one update available. Logged out of iTunes and logged back in still App store showing a non-existence update. Do you know if it is possible to re-install just iTunes/App store which maybe corrupted.

    Regards Jon

I would restart your phone and, if that doesn't do the trick, then reset it. To reset, press and hold the power and home buttons for about 10 seconds - till the screen goes black and ignoring the power off slider. Then, power up the phone and see if that bogus badge icon goes away.

If not, try signing out of the app store again, force-closing the app, then another reset. Then, sign back in.

Thanks for your help Lyssa, I did as you suggested, and still had the bogus icon. I then downloaded the deleted icon with all setting referring to the UK, this may have cured the problem as the bogus icon has disappeared and the app downloaded without any problem. I can't really tell if the original problem has been solved until an App store updates occurs.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Regards Jon
