Q: Sold my MacBook need to reinstall OS X

Hi all:

I sold my 2010 13" MacBook, and need to erase the hard drive and reinstall the OS X before sending it to the new owner.

I went through the instructions found here: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac - Apple Support

But, as soon as I get to the Install OS X screen, it is asking me to sign in with my Apple ID to download El Capitan (I had upgraded to El Capitan several weeks ago).

If I sign in with my Apple ID - won't that "mess it up" for the new owner?

Any help/guidance is GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,

Kim

Kim, Insert disc one of your original gray install set and restart while holding the C key. Choose your language and at the next screen click the Utilities menu in the top menu bar and run Disk Utility to erase the hard drive. Quit Disk Utility and return back to the install screen, choose install OS X.

Please don't tell me that you don't have the discs......please. In the event that you don't you'll need to buy a retail Snow Leopard disc in order to reinstall. http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

When you deliver the Macbook to it's new owner you should probide the disc(s) that you used.
