Q: Will I ever be able to use Word with El Capitan?

I have an older Mac 2009. I was about to upgrade to El capitan 10.11 I got a message saying Word would not work with the system. I prefer to keep using word and not one of the free word processing applications. Will I be able to do this with the new 0SX ? Will I have to buy a new version of Microsoft office ? Mine is probably from 2011 or earlier.

I use Microsoft Office For Mac 2016 with El Capitan with no problems.

Microsoft has also issued an update for Microsoft Office For Mac 2011 for El Capitan compatibility: Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support

Microsoft ended support for Office For Mac 2008 almost 3 years ago and there have been mixed reports regarding it working with El Capitan: Does MS Office 2008 work with El Capitan?
