Q: how can i get apps i purchased on an old phone onto a new phone

If you aren't using the following procedure to migrate to a new phone via iCloud backup or iTunes backup Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support and if you just want to get the apps you previously purchased, you can open the App Store app on the new phone, tap Updates at lower right, tap Purchased at the top and then tap the cloud with down arrow icon to the right of each app you want to download to the new phone.
