Q: Can I use iMessage on my Macbook Pro w/o owning an iPhone?

Just bought a Mid-2012 Macbook Pro (non-retina model), I have an Android phone, is there any way I can get iMessage to work with my phone number? Like can I put my SIM in a friend's iPhone and hook the cell phone # to my Apple ID? This is my first time owning an Apple device so I apologize if my terminology is off. I put all of my funds into buying the MBP so I don't have much right now to immediately buy an iPhone especially when my current phone is working perfectly fine. Basically I want to be able to reply to texts back on phone via my MBP, is it just plain out not possible? I was thinking of just saving a little bit to buy a used iPhone 5s so I can get the cross-platform texting working.
