how do you edit volume of a portion of an audio track

I have an audio track where a portion of it is too loud (in the middle). Is there a way to select that region of that single audio track and edit the volume for just that portion of the track? Thank you for helping this newbie 🙂

Yes, you can use the volume automation track.

Which version of GarageBand are you using?

In GarageBand 10:

  • Set the track automation to "Volume". You will see a thin, yellow automation curve.
  • Command-click into the track at the start of the region, where you want to lower the volume to add a control point. Add a second control point close to the first and drag it down to lower the volume. Add another ctrl-point where you want to return to the old volume.
