Q: The contacts app keeps crashing.

I Need help because when I tap the contacts all it keeps brining me back to the homescreen. This error is annoying because now I can CLEARLY and OBVIOUSLY not open the contacts application. This is not a third party application, it's the general Apple Contacts application out of the box from Apple. Im using the iPad Air 2 btw.

iPad Air, iOS 9.2, iPad Air 2

    Hi there daavvanderveen,

It sounds like your Contacts app launches only for a split second and then closes. I would quit the Contacts app specifically with these steps:

Force an app to close in iOS

    1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
    2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
    3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

When you restart that should reset the application and allow it to open properly. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities, let us know how that goes.

    Hi there!

I experienced the same issue with contacts crashed on iPad Air.

Here is the solution that helped me out of the mud... In settings switch off FaceTime application. I quitted all the apps as described by sterling r, restart and contacts app works. Then switch on again the FaceTime and now everything work well.

Hope it will work for you as well.

I tried rebooting but to no avail. Turning off Face Time did the trick. Thanks so much.

The above steps are no longer working for me. I've deliberately quit every app (including FaceTime and Contacts), the restarted the iPad a couple of times now - and yet the Contacts app won't open. It flashes briefly, then I go back to the home screen. If I double press the main button, I can view the Contacts app as one of the "cards", but if I select it, it'll display for maybe half a second before crashing.

I've had the Contacts app crashing like this before, but a restart of the iPad has always solved it. Not this time. Any ideas?

(The Contacts app on my iPhone, and on my iMac, are working fine.)

EDIT: OK, I tried something else that seems to have worked: I went to Settings / Main, Contacts, Calendars / Contacts, and then turned off contacts sync (and said, yes, delete everything), and then turned it back on. Then I restarted the iPad. When I opened the Contacts app after that it was empty, but it repopulated with everything from iCloud after five or six minutes. And now it seems to be working properly. I'm not sure if the restart was necessary, but that's what worked, anyway. Of course, make sure everything is synced before doing this!
