    Hmm, something sounds wrong there. You cannot attach external storage to an Apple TV.

    Lovely young lady is talking through her hat. You can download purchased movies on your Mac. You can view the movie by streaming it on the Apple TV (which requires internet access), or by streaming it from your computer using Airplay (which doesn't). You can't store movies on the Apple TV nor connect external storage to it.

     

    The LaCie may be a useful adjunct to your Mac, or not, depending on your requirements: but it is not suitable for the purpose for which it has been sold which, under UK law at least, qualifies it for a return and full refund. The law elsewhere may be different. In any case Apple do usually allow a return within a specified period of time.
