As an aside, you would (obviously) not be able to use Wrist Detection if the watch was around your neck. This would mean you wouldn't be able to use Apple Pay and would need to use a passcode to access watch functions. The watch would also not be able to monitor heart rate.

This is not necessarily correct.

Unless Passcode has been turned on (which is not compulsory), there is no need to enter a passcode to access watch functions.
