iCloud asking for password for an account that I have deleted!

Help! a few months ago I changed my Apple ID because I got a new email address, and I appeared to have successfully deleted the old account. Now I find that on my iPad, I cannot make any changes-- add/delete apps, not even RESTORE to factory settings, without entering the password of the OLD account-- which does not exist! I knew the password when the account existed, but it's no use typing it because the account has been deleted-- by me. I went to the Apple ID web page and entered my old Apple ID and confirmed that it doesn't even exist-- so how can I possibly enter a password for it. I thought I'd restore the device to factory setting and start again from scratch-- but EVEN THAT requires that I enter the password for the old Account. This is crazy. Any help, please?

Do you mean that you updated the primary email address on the account, or that you contacted iTunes Support and asked them to delete the account and that they agreed to do so (users can't delete accounts) ?

If you do mean updated then try : If iCloud asks you for the password to your previous Apple ID - Apple Support.

If you mean the iTunes Support deleted the account, and if you were the original purchaser of the iPad (i.e. it wasn't bought used) then you could try going to an Apple Store (make a Genius Bar appointment if you do) or try contacting iTunes Support online (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/) and see if they can remove the iPad from the account - they are likely to want to see proof of ownership before they might help e.g. original receipt with the serial number on it

King_Penguin,

Well, I got sidetracked and ignored this problem and your response for several months, but had the need tonight to follow through with your instructions, and it worked to the TEE. Thank you so much. So extremely frustrating to be asked for an account that doesn't exist (and therefore has no password). You saved the day, and your instructions were spot-on. I now only have one iCloud/Apple ID account name to mess with, and this solves a lot of frustrations. Thank you so much!
