Q: How can I keep Safari from redirecting me to Apple's Chinese site?
My system language is Simplified Chinese. However, I am a native speaker of English and troubleshoot, etc., in that language. Whenever I click on a link for useful information in the Apple English web site, it sends me to the Chinese page. I suppose Apple thinks it's being 'helpful' but it's driving me nuts. I can copy paste the English link in the top bar, but i still get redirected.
Oddly enough, the menus and commands in Safari have remained in English! System Preferences as well. Incidentally, the same problem is happening with Skype. Why can't I navigate where I want to go? Chinese is great to work with as a system, but not for troubleshooting or renewing a credit card.
The only answer I've heard to this is that if you change your system language, these web pages will automatically default to that language. But they should load the pages you're REQUESTING, not the ones Apple or Microsoft thinks you should go to. Just because my system is Chinese after all doesn't mean I am.
Anyway, always good to get stuff off my chest. How do I fix it? Please don't tell me 'change your primary language to English.' I guess then I'd have to default to Firefox. I far prefer Safari.
