Q: Grid on screen for thunderbolt 27"

I've got a several year old Thunderbolt 27" display.

All of a sudden, there's a pronounced "screen" like appearance on the right side of the screen that gradually fades to no screen like appearance. This is particularly noticeable on a white background.

The monitor is probably still under AppleCare.

Recommendations?

Left side is fine

I've got the same problem, except that the grid is worst on the left side, then clears up across the screen, which is fine on the right side. The monitor is driven by a 2012 MBPR 15". I have had the monitor for nearly two years and have not had any issues until now.

Using expert calibration can reduce the grid (which is like staring through a screen door) to only the horizontal lines.

I'm guessing it's the monitor, although it is possible that it is the computer...maybe? I have an old Dell LCD monitor that I sometimes run alongside the laptop screen and the Thunderbolt display. I have no issues on that monitor.

It'd be nice if this would be a software fix, but I have a feeling that, given Apple's recent construction methods, that it's A: a failing part and B: it's glued to everything else, so it can't be replaced without replacing tons of other things at great expense.
