Q: Iphone 6s Plus won't connect via airdrop to MBP or Imac

I can't get my new i phone 6s+ to connect via airdrop or bluetooth for that matter to my MBP or Imac. Aren't they supposed to be able to do this? The computers connect via air drop, but they don't see the phone either way. Is this normal? Is there any way to swap files between them besides email? I am also having difficulty getting Icloud drive to swap some files from even the simplest of apps like text edit from the macs to the phone. I suspect that there is something gone awry in my phone's settings, but honestly I'm so new to the phone that I may be asking it to do something that it's not supposed to without knowing. I just thought that If I got an i phone I would be able to share all my files between my macs and my phone. With the exception of one of my email accounts, this doesn't seem to be the case yet.

Any help would be appreciated here.
