What happens if I delete an iCloud backup for an no longer used apple device?

My iCloud storage is running out of space and I don't have the money to pay monthly for extra storage. I was wondering what would happen if I deleted the backup for my iPod touch that I haven't used since last February. My iPod is also the first device that I have with my icloud account so I was wondering will I lose all my stuff? I have everything saved onto my iPad but I'm worried if I delete my iPod backup storage everything will be wiped clean. I Don't have a working computer so I can't download everything on iCloud on a laptop. My devices are the iPod touch, the ipad mini and an iPhone 5c. I don't want to lose anything that i have downloaded.

Deleting an iCloud backup won't delete anything from your iPod, but if there is a problem with the iPod you would no longer have a backup of it. The following link has instructions on how to delete a backup and how to turn off future backups to iCloud for a device. It also has other information about iCloud storage.
