How to move files on PC to iMac

I am leaving my job and need to return my work PC and want to save personal files to my iMac. What is the best way to do this?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Since USB Flash drives are sold in capacities up to 256GB, I'd suggest getting a Flash drive of sufficient size, plugging it into your work PC and copying the files over. Current Flash drive prices are ridiculously low (e.g., Staples has 32GB flash drives for $11 and for $4 more you can get it in USB 3.0).

Use a standard Zip archiver that has an OS X compatible version, as well and archive your files. Copy the archive to an MSDOS formatted disk. The Mac can read the disk so you can copy the archive to the Mac. Use the Mac-Equivalent Zip program to un-archive your files. Do not delete anything from your PC until you know you have transferred your data successfully.

If you're familiar with Windows and its file shares — remote disk mounts — then enable file sharing on the Mac ( > System Preferences > Sharing > ☑️ File Sharing (also check under Options, and make sure SMB sharing is enabled), then use Windows Explorer or the command line to mount the Mac file share from the Windows system, and copy your files directly.
