2010 Macbook Pro is stuck in sleep mode, will not wake up, reset SMC already, no luck

My daughter spilled a very small amount of liquid on her laptop keyboard and the black connector from screen to keyboard. She immediately dried it and continued to use her laptop with no issues. She closed the lid about 20 minutes later. After a few hours, she came back, opened her laptop, and nothing. There are no sounds at all, the sleep light on the bottom right corner blinks, after pushing the start button, as if by pushing the start button, it's putting the laptop to sleep. We have held down the power button 10 seconds, then pushed again, nothing. We have reset the SMC, then pushed the power button, and again, nothing. Does anyone know any tricks to help wake this laptop up, aside from taking it to the apple store? Thanks!

Please make an appointment at the Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar and take it in for service. If you are not in the USA or cannot set up an appointment this way, then contact your local Apple Store directly. Do this ASAP before more damage is caused by your delays.

Yes, I am aware of the possible need to take it in. However, my question is asking specifically if anyone knows any tricks to get the laptop out of sleep mode. Thanks

Shutdown the computer and restart it. Press and hold down the power button until the computer shuts down. Wait one minute then restart into Recovery HD and use Disk Utility to repair the drive. Then try restarting.

We have no way of knowing the damage done by the liquid. The items you have tried are good recommendations.

Holding the power button for an extended amount of time will force a shut down. Sleep mode or not.

There is no miracle in a bottle for liquid damage. Computer components and liquid do not mix well.

Liquid damage is not covered by Apple warranty. You can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test

yes I did hold it down, and the sleep light turned off. Then when trying to power up, it went right back into sleep mode. The liquid amount was so little and was cleaned up immediately, plus she continued to use the laptop after for nearly 25 minutes with no issues. I have perused the internet, and have seen so many posts regarding MacBooks getting stuck in sleep mode, I know I am not alone, and it leads me to believe that the liquid id unrelated and coincidental. Thanks for your response 🙂
