Jan 10, 2016 8:04 PM in response to cookiepowerby ManSinha, couple of options
1. If your texts are still in the iMessage app in the 4S, then you can back the 4S up to iTunes - restoring that to your new phone will transfer those texts from your old phone to new
2. You can take pictures of the texts by using the screen capture - press off/on and home buttons simultaneously - and email those pictures to yourself or upload to a cloud service
3. You can use external software like Dr. Fone or iPhone Back Up viewer (I haven't used these personally but have seen them spoken about on these forums)

Jan 10, 2016 8:26 PM in response to cookiepowerby ManSinha,You may want to follow the instructions here
Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support
I have transferred content across at least 4 iPhones after backing it up to iTunes and then restoring that back up to the new Phone
Where does it say messages won't transfer?

Jan 10, 2016 8:49 PM in response to ManSinhaby cookiepower,in the event I am able to backup texts via iCloud, I don't necessarily need to then put them into my new phone. I just need to be able to get to them some way or another in the future. If that's via a computer laptop or iPad or pic that's fine. I just need to know they're saved/ transferred/ uploaded/ backed up some kind of phone before I surrender this phone. but it's too many to screenshot them all

Jan 11, 2016 8:51 AM in response to cookiepowerby leggoman75,★HelpfulYour best bet if you need to keep then is, to use iMazing, It will backup your phone, let you save contacts mesages and much much more.
link replace ;; with tt for link to work
the down side is its 34.99 dollars
You could try the older disk aid version, you can down load trial versions but IM sure that don't let you save your information.
IExploer we do the same stuff data recovery. photos
link replace ;; with tt for link to work
h;;ps://www.macroplant.com/iexplore
the down side is its about the same cost 34.99 dollars
the only other thing i would try is backing up you phone with another computer and copy backup to portable hard dive or usb flash card making sure you delete the backup from what ever computer you use.
Also if you have a backup in iTunes then you will have most or all your texts saved, a few apps about that can read dater from a backup,
I paid for iMazing for the same reason you are facing now, not just changing your phone, but to have a safe copy saved of all text email.
Best of luck, hope this of some help and you get your stuff saved.

Jan 11, 2016 8:56 AM in response to cookiepowerby cookiepower,I've backed up my phone to my computer via iTunes. I see no options for "Messages" only music, purchases, purchase apps. I don't understand why this seemingly simple idea is so complicated.
I will not attempt to try to back up to the computer (not itunes) but to my hard drive and then hope to be able to find the messages later.

I Specifically need my text messages for future records.
You are misinterpreting the warning. An iPhone is an iPhone, the SAME kind of device, regardless of model. Provided the backup is made locally onto the computer's hard drive AND it is encrypted with password, EVERYTHING gets backed up. Then when you Restore on the new device, EVERYTHING (save a few passwords, like the AppleID) gets put in there.
Been there. Done that. 4 times already. iPhone 4, 5, 5s, 6+.
If you still have both phones, TEST the process. As needed, wipe the new phone clean and try again till all works. Does not harm the device.
