Is it possible to keep cursors from flashing/blinking?

I have sensory processing issues, and flashing/blinking lights can really hurt. Unfortunately, there's a lot of them everywhere.

I'm having trouble typing with the cursor flashing where I'm trying to type and need to be able to see.

Apparently it used to be possible to disable the flashing/blinking cursor, using the terminal commands discussed here: https ://discussions.apple.com/message/23549885#23549885 and here: http://osxnotes.net/defaults.html but they don't work and more. Tinkertool includes settings to change the blink/flash/pain rate, but not to entirely disable the thing.
