Will it damage my laptop if it goes through the
airport security X-Ray system?

I purchased my MacBook in July and I live in Europe, it has gone through many security checks and xrays, all is well. Just make sure you have a nice soft sleeve to carry it in and don't scratch it on the zippers when taking it in and out.

Well its easier if you leave it asleep because security wll often ask you to 'start it up' . I've never had any problems.

Airport security used to require airline passengers to power on thier notebooks at security, but not any more. They changed that rule late las year or early this year.

If you're traveling in the US, you most likely will not have to power on your MacBook. It's better to keep it shut down.

Here in Orlando, one of the larger Airports, require you to take it out of the sleeve, but it can be on top. I haven't had any problems traveling, and often get comments on the MB. 🙂

I will advise that you pick a laptop bag which is easy to get the MacBook in and out of quickly. In the U.S. at least (and as you may well know), all laptops have to be out of the bag and in their own plastic bin as they go through screening. So a bag that allows you to get the MacBook out, and then returned to safety with minimal fuss is a blessing.

You don't want to be fighting to get the laptop in and out of a bag while also trying to maneuver shoes, wallet, cellphone, etc.

Xrays do not hurt electronics. We used to test our builds with xrays. The big problem with xrays was film cameras. The xrays would fog the film depending on the strength of the machine.
