Q: Is there a keyboard shortcut for Show Desktop that does not hide open folders on the desktop?

I typically work with at least two folders open on the desktop, for navigating around local and network file structures. I also typically work moving between 2-3 applications concurrently. I frequently want to go from working in an application to looking through file directories on the desktop.

When I hit the keyboard hotkey fn+F11, or command + mission control, it shows the desktop but hides the file folders that I have open. This annoying, because I then have to spend 2+ more clicks restoring those to view. When I do this ~25 times per day, it gets old.

Is there a hotkey that will show the desktop but not hide the open folders that I have there?

I'm in OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 on a Mac Pro.
