Nothing, it still works. Of course, it may depend on how you are attempting to make them.

As always, you have to edit the track to limit the length to no more than 30 seconds long.

All good answers but I know how to MAKE ringgtones.  Previously, under the Settings you could browse your music and choose as song to use directly, with no time limits.

I'm sorry, but you have never been able to do that with the iPhone. Ringtones can only be a maximum of 30 seconds, although 29 works better. And, the ringtones have to have a different file extension from the music in your iTunes library.

Ringtones on the iPhone have always run as 30s (max) loops. No iphone has ever been able to do what you claim. You have always had to edit the track to be no more than 30s long And they need the *.m4r extension to be recognized as a ringtone.

I beg to differ.  There used to be that option when setting a ringtone for an individual.

You're confusing two different things. There has been an option to select a ringtone for an individual (different from the default) for as long as I've own an iPhone. But you have to select from installed ringtones. You have never been able to select a tone from your library.

If you're trying o set a ringtone for specific person, go to that person's entry in Contacts. Tap Edit in the upper right corner. Select a ringtone in the Ringtone field. You'll need to select from whatever ones you have installed. Tap Done in the upper right corner.

Sorry there was no settings to do that.  You could never use an entire song for ringtone, it had to be 30 seconds or less.

You do have the option to select individual ringtones for selected contacts, however as Meg has stated, that does not allow you to select from your Music library, just your Tones list. This has always been the case, as you have been told previously.

As others have stated, this has NEVER been possible with any native version of iOS.  It may have been possible on hacked iPhones, but not on a native installation of iOS.

No.  Sorry.  There has never been a time when you could choose a song as a ringtone.

You have always had to create/purchase the ringtone version.

I'm 99% sure I know what you're confusing it with... the fact that you can choose any given song as an alarm tone for your alarm clocks. Although I've had a lot of trouble with these just going off silently, which is a giant bummer. But I think it's if the songs you have chosen are not downloaded on the device.

But since the selection tool is the same with these two, I've confused them myself and wondered why I couldn't choose a full song as a ringtone like with alarms. Hope that helped.
