It says to keep my text messages forever on my phone. Where are they?

They are gone once you delete them. Keep for "forever" prevents them from automatically being deleted after 30 days or one year. If they are still one your phone they will be in the messages app. Use Messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

They stays in the messages app as long as you don't delete them manually.
