Q: Safari is not supported

I often receive messages when I browse with safari that my browser is no more supported. That does not make sense as I use the latest version. Has someone got that message and is there a solution or should I just use Google Chrome?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), null

Please load CheckMyIp.org and post the "USER AGENT information" shown.

Here it is. Clearly that info is not correct.... How can I change this?

Your USER AGENT information is Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_2; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.8 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Safari/531.21.10 FBSMTWB

Every webserver that receives a request from your browser is able to determine the HTTP USER AGENT

information unless it has been removed by some software (e.g. firewall) before the request was trasmitted.

    1. From the Safari menu bar, please select

              Safari Preferences... Extensions

If there's an extension with the name "Fast Browser Search" or similar, remove it.

    2. Back up all data before continuing.

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    defaults delete -app Safari CustomUserAgent

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

    Quit Safari if it's running.

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with Safari. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.

Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal. Test.

    Thanks,

I will try tomorrow after backing up all my files. What do you mean with "Test" at the end?

I guess that you just mean I try to use safari and I see if it is still reported as unsupported, or if it works?

Thanks a lot for the help anyway. Hopefully success tomorrow.

    That's right.
