Jan 11, 2016 8:27 PM in response to Protoddby dennishan1011,Mine is a customized name for apple tv. We ach have our own apple ids too, and the remote only works for mine not his.
But when I click on the airplay icon, under "airplay to:" the only name shows up is "Apple TV" but mine apple tv's name is not listed there.

Jan 11, 2016 9:22 PM in response to dennishan1011by Protodd,It sounds like your roommate is the only one with homesharing setup or that your Appleid is on his ATV - its supposed to require the same appleID on both devices to AirPlay/homeshare with. are you able to see your iTunes library on your ATV? Is your roomate able to see his library?
This is what I would suggest
- Verify that all devices (Mac, iPhones, ATVs) have the latest OS updates
- Verify that both iTunes have the latest software.
- Turn off HomeSharing on all devices (iTunes and Mac preferences, both Apple TVs, both iPhones)
- Restart your network router
- Restart MacBooks
- Restart iTunes
- Delete remote app from both iPhones
- Restart iPhones
- Reinstall the remote app on both iPhones
- Turn on HomeSharing on all devices (iTunes and Mac preferences, both Apple TVs, both iPhones)
Share your iTunes library over your home network - Apple Support

Jan 12, 2016 8:17 PM in response to Protoddby dennishan1011,We can each see our own itunes library on our own atv, but not each others. tried restarting everything, doesnt work, except when i tried to update the software on my atv, it continues to say "update unsuccessful at this time" tried restarting the device, and reset but still wont let me update. Airplay also still doesnt work.

Jan 12, 2016 8:34 PM in response to dennishan1011by Vinceassociate,Did you turn on AirPlay in the ATV settings? I have 2 Apple TV's on my network with unique names and both always show up.

Jan 12, 2016 8:48 PM in response to dennishan1011by Protodd,is the one that doesn't work with the remote app the one that won't update? I would recommend restoring that device via iTunes - you need to get to software updated...
Restore your Apple TV through iTunes - Apple Support
I Still find it odd that even though you have separate appleid your able to AirPlay to his ATV - you should not be able access each other's library or use the remote app on each other's ATV.

Jan 13, 2016 4:49 AM in response to dennishan1011by Vinceassociate,If Airplay is on, then when you are at that screen in settings on the ATV, do you see your own and your roommates ATV listed under speakers on that same screen? You should see both with your ATV checked. If you cannot see that on your ATV then your ATV is the issue. Suggest you simply take it to an Apple Store and have them restore and update the software for you.
