Q: Media No Longer Showing in iTunes (v12.3.0.44)
I've apparently done something recently and now my media no longer shows up in iTunes.
My configuration may be a bit "abnormal" so suggestions on how to approve will be appreciated. This configuration has worked well in the past and I'm not sure what I changed.
You'll notice that I have my library file on one computer (PC) and the media on another (Mac Mini) on my home network. I chose this method since I seem to remember having problems in the past having PC and Mac versions of iTunes try to use the same library.
I only start iTunes and try to access my media when connected to my home network (wired or Wi-Fi) with the media drive "mapped" to the P
- I'm using a PC with Windows 7 (64-bit) and this is the machine where the media doesn't appear in iTunes
- My media is on a Mac Mini that is on my home network.
- I "map network drive" to the Mac Mini and it appears on my PC as Drive Y:
- Using iTunes preferences on my PC, I change the media location (Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced) to "Y:Music\iTunes"
- Within this folder on the Mac Mini there are separate folders for Audiobooks, Movies, Music, etc...
- The "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" option is checked (as it was originally)
- The "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" option is checked (as it was originally)
- The "Share iTunes Library XML with other applications" option is not checked (as it was originally)
- I start iTunes holding the Shift key to choose or create a new library
- I choose new library and create a new library on my PC
- At this point, only the music purchased from the iTunes Store is shown in iTunes (with the cloud indicator)
- I choose "Add Folder to Library" from the iTunes "File" menu and select the "Music" folder (Y:Music\iTunes\Music)
- iTunes shows a dialog box titled "Adding Files" and appears to be importing my music to the library
- At some point, the dialog box is then titled "Organizing Files"
- After quite some time (over 22 hours the last time - I'm not sure why it took this long with ) the adding process quits, but most of the media doesn't appear in iTunes - even after several hours or days.
- When I started the "add" process, I had 23 covers in album view - when completing there were 61 so only 38 were imported. I have over 300 albums, organized by artist, in the "Music" subdirectory that was imported..
- The "albums" that do show up in iTunes have been moved from "Music" subdirectory of "Y:\Music\iTunes" (by
artist name) to the iTunes subdirectory (by artist name). - The "albums" that do not show up in iTunes remain in the Music subdirectory of iTunes.
- When I do the same process for audiobooks (i.e. Import Folder - "Y:\Music\iTunes\Audiobooks") nothing gets imported at all.
- I haven't tried importing the "Movies" subdirectory.
Please help!

See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. Perhaps you can restore/reconnect to the last working version of your library.
See also Make a split library portable for general background on library structure. Ideally the media folder would appear as say //<Volume>/iTunes/iTunes Media if viewed from the Mac and Y:\iTunes\iTunes Media if viewed from the PC. It is possible permissions issues on the Mac are blocking the PC when it tries to add content.
