itunes automatically skips to next song

My itunes has started skipping to the next track after about a minute into each song if I just leave it playing. It's a bit irritating as I can't listen to a whole song unless it's a)less than two minutes long, b)keep doing something within itunes. Does anyone else have the same problem and is it to do with my settings?

I am having a similar problem. After my wife's dell computer recently tanked (heat sink), I decided to buy her a new Imac. I was able to rescue her drive from the dell which contained all her itunes music. I then transfered the files to the Imac Itunes folder and authorized the computer. So far, so good, I thought. However, when I tried to play the music the songs only play for 8-10 secs then skip to the next songs. I havde updated software for Itunes and Quicktimne, and do not have any third party software. Some of the free songs that Itunes dumps on your drive play their all the way through, as well as podcasts but anything that has been ripped or has been purchased skips. Does anyone know what to do?

Thanks, in advance.

This is not an Apple support board, it is a user forum in which users provide mutual help if they can.

I have had the iPod skipping tracks problem, which in my case was due to my iPod losing authorisation for some unknown reason. It was fixed by synchronising the iPod which restored authorisation.

I don’t know the answer to tracks ending prematurely, you could try searching the boards – the search box is on the upper right of your screen.

Zoso jade, I had a quick search of the forum and found one or two people with the stopping in the middle problem but no solution.

If all tracks finish a few seconds early, looking at the cross fade setting in Edit>Prefernces>playback may help, but this doesn’t sound like that.

An experiment you might try is to open Quicktime and play one of the tracks that ends early, does it do the same thing there?

I suspect QuickTime. I had an older Mac mini and upgraded to one with an Intel chip. I backed up my music files to an external drive and later copied them to the new mini. All copied\imported music files skip while playing every ~4-6 seconds. Purchased songs from iTunes play for a few seconds then skip to next song then it plays for a few seconds then skips to the next etc.

-If I copy the same files to my Windows XP system with iTunes 7.0.2.16 no issues.
-If I share the music Library of the Window-iTunes system and play thru new mini iTunes no issue
-If I share the library of the Mini and play on Windows-iTune, same problem
-If I re-import the songs from CD on the new mini no issues
-Tried converting files to AAC, no luck
-I created new account on mac and imported music same issue
-Re-installed iTunes didn't fix
-issue with purchased songs from iTunes as well as own imports
-System resources have more then enough free capacity
-Paying same song in QuickTime(7.1.3) crashes the app if a purchased song imports still skip
