iPhone 5 won't accept my correct passcode!

iPhone 5 won't accept my correct passcode. I took my sim out as I have a 5s That I want to start using. Put the sim in my new iPhone 5s and I discovered that I have no recent back up on my iCloud so I went back into my original 5 and the passcode has been rejected? Any ideas why? It is now disabled as it won't accept the passcode. The passcode is correct. Have I messed up by not disabling my passcode on my iPhone5 before removing my sim and registering with another phone!?
